Fundraising success tips

It all starts with your story. Your story is the heart of the fundraiser. It’s how your friends, your family, and your broader social network will understand and relate to your situation.

We know that telling your story can be difficult and maybe even a bit intimidating, so our team is here at every step to help. Building on what we’ve learned from helping the Generosity community with thousands of successful fundraisers, we’ve put together some tips for getting started.

Story & best practices

Be you

Potential donors on Generosity tend to gravitate toward personal stories. Don’t worry too much about every word being right or every sentence being perfect. Instead, be yourself and share your situation in your own words.

Add a picture or video to your fundraiser page. This helps potential donors link a human face to your situation, helping to make your cause more relatable.

We know how great it feels when you find support among your friends and family. Share the warmth by thanking your supporters and updating them on your progress.

Be specific

Time and again, we hear that donors love the feeling of being a part of a solution—big or small. Keep this in mind as you tell your story. Give your potential donors a clear idea of what’s being requested and how exactly their donations will help.

Be transparent

Potential donors appreciate honesty and transparency. It helps create a bond of trust between you and your community.

If you’re running a fundraiser on behalf of someone else, explain who the recipient is and your relationship. Don’t worry if you don’t personally know the recipient. In fact, that’s great of you to step up and help a stranger! Just let your contributors know about it by including this detail in your story.

Be proactive

Don’t forget that launching a fundraiser is just the start—once your campaign is live it’s time to reach out to family, friends, and your extended network to build some momentum. The most successful organizers typically take advantage of our full suite of social sharing tools. Share early, share often.

Together, change a life.
